Connecting with Maine Businesses through the 2013 Maine Int'l Trade Day

TECO in Boston participated in 2013 Maine International Trade Day — May 30 and 31, 2013, South Portland, ME

Represented by Economic Director Peter T. L. Shih, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Boston participated in this year’s Maine International Trade Day events organized by Maine International Trade Center (MITC). Maine International Trade Day is the state’s premier annual business event bringing together leading professionals from Maine, New England and its major trading/investment foreign partners to discuss new development, current challenges and future opportunities in international trade.

About 400 businessmen, Maine government officials, scholars, media journalists, foreign representatives, and more participated in this year’s International Trade Day events. On May 30, Director Shih was invited to attend, joined by about 40 ambassadors/consulate-generals/commercial attaches, the VIP/Consulate Dinner hosted by MITC, Maine Dept. of Economic and Community Development and Pierce Atwood LLP, the dinner sponsor. At the dinner, Director Shih exchanged views and opinions with other guests on exploring trade and investment opportunities in Maine and New England.

The Trade Day was held the next day, and Director Shih met with representatives from more than 15 Maine companies, institutions and NGOs. Director Shih used the opportunity to introduce the representatives the latest info on Taiwan pertaining to their professions or businesses, and explored the bilateral trade, investment and R&D opportunities with these Maine companies. Director Shih also reaffirmed to Maine state economic officials Taiwan’s willingness to explore more bilateral trade and investment opportunities, and proposed a visit by Maine state officials to Taiwan for that purpose.
