President Ma's Stanford Video Conference "Steering Through a Sea of Change"

President Ma spoke directly to scholars at a video conference titled " Steering Through a Sea of Change" hosted by Stanford University and chaired by former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this April. Panelists included Larry Diamond, the director of Stanford's Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law; Francis Fukuyama, a Senior Fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies; and Admiral Gary Roughead, the Former Chief of Naval Operations, US Navy.
Ma pledged to strengthen U.S.-Taiwan ties and discussed recent developments in economic ties, including the recently concluded talks under the Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) in March in Taipei. He also discussed Taiwan's admission to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, the East China Sea peace initiative and issues of regional security, and the shared cultural and sporting interests.
